With the launch of 29 more Starlink satellites, Ilon Musk steps up pressure on competitors

SpaceX conducted another launch of Starlink satellites on March 19, continuing the accelerated deployment of the world's largest orbital Internet constellation. The Falcon 9 rocket put 29 next-generation satellites into orbit, confirming the company's transition to an almost continuous cycle of launches.

Since the beginning of the year, SpaceX has significantly increased the frequency of missions, bringing them to a level where launches occur at intervals of several days. According to open launch tracking data, in March alone, the company performs a series of missions, forming a steady “conveyor belt” of putting satellites into orbit, notes spaceflightnow.com.

The current launch was part of a scaling strategy for Starlink, a project that already has several thousand active satellites and provides broadband internet in dozens of countries.

The move to a high launch frequency means a shift in operating model: SpaceX is actually turning space missions into a regular infrastructure operation comparable to terrestrial telecom networks.

According to industry analysts, such dynamics allows the company to increase coverage and network capacity faster, while reducing the cost of launching each satellite due to economies of scale.

Pressure on competitors

Accelerating the deployment of Starlink strengthens SpaceX’s position in the global race of satellite Internet, where the key competitor is the project Kuiper from Amazon, founded by Jeff Bezos.

Unlike competitors in the early stages of deployment, SpaceX already has significant technological and infrastructure headroom.

Regular launches allow the company to not only maintain its lead, but also build up barriers to entry by taking orbital positions and radio frequencies – limited resources critical to satellite communications.

As a result, Starlink is gradually transforming from a technology project into one of the largest global telecommunications operators – with the potential to significantly impact telecommunications markets, especially in regions with limited terrestrial infrastructure.

If SpaceX maintains the current pace of launches, Starlink could become a global telecom operator capable of influencing telecom markets in dozens of countries, especially where ground infrastructure is limited.
