The Norwegians strengthened their lead in the team medal standings, thanks to another gold medal for the unbeaten Johannes Klebo in cross-country skiing. Team Australia won two gold medals at the Winter Games for the first time in history. Great Britain and Kazakhstan joined the list of countries whose athletes reached the top of the podium at the Olympics-2026.

One step away from the historic event

Johannes Klebo is triumphantly approaching the status of the most decorated athlete of the Winter Olympics. After winning the 10km individual cross-country ski race, the 29-year-old Norwegian became an eight-time Olympic champion, along with renowned compatriots Ole Einar Bjørndalen (biathlon), Marit Bjørgen and Bjørn Daly (both cross-country skiing).

As early as February 15, he could rewrite history by becoming the greatest athlete ever. If the Norwegian men’s relay team wins, Klebo will win his ninth Olympic gold medal and take sole possession of the top spot on the list.

Moldovan skier Iulian Lukin finished 96th among 111 competitors. He was 6 minutes 14.8 seconds behind the winner.

Long-awaited medals

Kazakhstan’s Mikhail Shaidorov sensationally won the men’s figure skating tournament. Ranked fifth after the short program, the 21-year-old skater brilliantly performed his free skating program. He confidently outscored Japan’s Yuma Kagiyama and Shun Sato, who were silver and bronze medalists, respectively.

Shaidorov won the second gold medal in the history of Kazakh athletes at the Winter Games. The first one was won 32 years ago at the Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway.

Matt Weston brought Great Britain its first gold medal by winning the skeleton event. In the 102-year history of British participation in the Winter Games, they have never won more than one top medal.

TheGreen Continent rejoices

For the first time in history, Australia has won two gold medals at the Winter Olympics. Snowboarder Josie Buff was the best in cross country.

This came a day after freestyle skier Cooper Woods was the best in the mogul discipline.

Snowboarder Scotty James fought for victory in the Halfpipe discipline, but lost 1.5 points to Japan’s Yuto Totsuka. He won the silver medal with the same margin over another Japanese, Ryusei Yamada.

With two gold medals, the Australian team is 15th in the team standings.

Moldovan biathletes are out of the pursuit race

French biathlete Kanthan Fillon-Maye became a four-time Olympic champion by winning the 10 km sprint race. Norway’s Vetle-Sjostad Kristiansen and Sturla Legreid finished second and third respectively.

Pavel Magazeev and Maxim Makarov, representing Moldova, failed to make it into the top 60 and did not qualify for the pursuit race. Magazeev was 78th, while Makarov was 86th among 90 athletes. For them, their performance in the Olympics is over.

Hockey players started the playoffs

While the men’s hockey group tournament is underway, the women’s playoffs have begun. Silver medalists of the previous Games, the Americans defeated the Italians (6:0) in the quarterfinals, and the Swedes beat the Czechs (2:0).

The reigning Olympic champions Canadians will compete with the Germans for a spot in the semifinals on February 14. The fourth spot will be decided in a match between the women’s national teams of Finland and Switzerland.

The odds are in favor of the Norwegians

Norway became the only team to add a gold medal to the top three and broke away from Italy. The Vikings have eight gold, three silver and seven bronze medals.

The Italians, who won one bronze medal on the seventh day, with seven gold medals hold the advantage over the U.S. team (four gold, seven silver and three bronze medals).
