At the moment, as winegrowers say, “the bunches are well done, and the berries are of uniform rather large size”. According to Serghei Tutovan, Chairman of the Cahul Region Table Grape Producers Association, by the beginning of the last decade of June, the state of the potential harvest even in the vineyards of early varieties prone to peeling (e.g. “Codrianka”) deserves a good assessment. Late-ripening grapes of the main export variety “Moldova” now look almost flawless, and even on non-irrigated plantations.
Winegrowers are also encouraged by the fact that weather conditions at the end of the first month of summer do not favor the spread of diseases in vineyards. Nevertheless, experts recommend to carry out preventive treatment of plantations against mildew and oidium with systemic fungicides in the near future. At the same time, add sulfur-containing preparations to the working solution.
Earlier, Logos Press reported with reference to the opinion of leading experts of Moldovan winegrowing industry that this year the country can get one of the highest grape harvests in the five-year period. That is, more than 100 thousand tons of production.
