The Air Force 1 outsole hides a mesh pattern that references the model’s basketball roots, while metallic accents give the sneaker a modern futuristic touch. These details turn a familiar classic into a real art object for collectors and retro fans, writes WWD.
CEO Elliot Hill, despite plans to scale back the base models, notes that the Air Force 1 remains the heart of the brand’s retro lineup. And it’s no wonder: since its debut in 1982, the sneakers have achieved cult status and are still among the top-selling models.
Other new additions to the lineup for spring include pastel-colored patent models inspired by early 2000s aesthetics and the Kobe Bryant Protro, a tribute to the friendship between Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol.
The new Air Force 1s, code IR1981-100, will go on sale March 20 on the Nike SNKRS app and select Nike Sportswear stores for $125. The colorway – White/Blue Tint/Pure Platinum/Chrome – perfectly blends classic with modern chic, making these sneakers the must-have of the season.
