In total, during July-November of this year (i.e. during the first five months of the 2025-26 marketing season), Moldovan wheat exports amounted to slightly more than 583 thousand tons, worth 2.06 billion lei. Compared to the figures for the same period last year, this is a noticeable increase: in physical terms – by 18%, in value terms – by 16%.
Nevertheless, as agro-marketing expert Iurie Rija notes, even taking into account the improvement of market dynamics, wheat exports in July-November this year “are still at an average level and lag far behind the indicators for the same period of 2023 (703.5 thousand tons) and, especially, 2021 (894.4 thousand tons, 3.7 billion lei).
In the period from July to November 2025, the average export price of wheat amounted to 3.55 lei per kilogram, 2% lower than in the previous season, when the average price was 3.61 lei per kilogram. Compared to the price level in 2021, which is considered a pre-war benchmark and characterized by a good harvest and a more stable market, the decrease in wheat price is even more noticeable. In July-November 2021, Moldovan wheat was exported at an average price of 4.13 lei/kg – 14% more expensive than in the current season.
Interestingly, wheat is practically the only cheaper commodity in the grain and oilseed group. For other types of grain and oilseeds prices have increased compared to last year’s level. This is related not only to the situation on the world wheat market, but also to some quality problems (dough elasticity indicators – W) of Moldovan wheat at the beginning of the current marketing season.
