Victor Gurin – bronze medalist of the Youth Wrestling World Championships

Freestyle wrestler Viktor Gurin became the third in the 45 kg weight category at the European Youth Olympic Wrestling Championships (U-17), which ended in Skopje (North Macedonia), - reports Logos Press.

During the tournament, the 15-year-old Moldovan wrestler defeated representatives of Israel and Russia. Victor Gurin won the first medal of his wrestling career with a 21:14 victory over Daniil Nakhavitsyn (Russia) in the small final. He shared third place with Armen Piruzyan (Armenia), who won the second small final.

Umar Rabadanov, a representative of Russia competing under a neutral flag, became the European champion in freestyle wrestling among juniors. The silver medalist was Saba Mindiashvili from Georgia.

Victor Gurin’s medal allowed the national team of Moldova to take the seventh place in the team standings. Juniors from 30 European countries took part in the freestyle wrestling competitions.

Earlier, LP reported that three athletes became prize-winners of the Youth Olympic Wrestling World Championships. Ignat Meiko became vice-champion of Europe in Greco-Roman wrestling in the weight category up to 71 kg, and Vadim Tsarelunga in the same discipline won a bronze medal in the category up to 45 kg. The only medal in women’s wrestling was won by Irina Terzi, who became the third in the weight category up to 43 kg.
