Vasile Diacon and Vitaly Eryomenko – among the best wrestlers in the world

Five Moldovan wrestlers were included in the TOP-10 of the world ranking of the International Olympic Wrestling Federation (UWW) in their weight categories, Vasile Diacon and Vitalie Eremenko were placed above the others, - reports Logos Press.

Freestyle wrestler Vasile Diacon is ranked fourth among athletes in the weight category up to 70 kg, with 44.5 thousand points. This season, the 25-year-old athlete did not win any medals at the World and European Championships, but he was consistently in the top ten and won bronze medals at the World Series tournaments in Croatia and Albania.

One position away from the top three is Greco-Roman wrestler Vitaly Eremenko. The athlete is represented in the weight category up to 63 kg, he scored 52.7 thousand points. This season, the 21-year-old athlete won the European Youth Championships, silver medalist of the Youth World Championships, bronze medalist of the World and European Championships among adults.

Three Greco-Roman wrestlers also took places in TOP-10: Artem Deleanu (up to 55 kg) with 31.4 thousand points, Valentin Petic (up to 67 kg) with a balance of 42.4 thousand points and Mihail Bradu (up to 82 kg) with 41.68 thousand points. They took fifth places in their weight categories. Delianu won a bronze medal at this year’s European Senior Championships, Petic won silver medals at the World Series and Budapest Grand Prix tournaments, and Bradu = bronze medal at the World Series tournament in Croatia.

The reigning European Under-23 champion Alexander Solovey lost his place in the top ten (up to 77 kg). He scored 29.500 and is in 11th position. In the same weight category Alexandrin Gutsu, who won the title of champion for the third time in a row at the youth continental championship, was also among the top 20. He has 29.5 thousand points.

Among those who were not included in the TOP-10, the highest positions were occupied by freestyle wrestlers Leonid Kolesnik (11th place in the category up to 61 kg) and Radu Lefter (15th place in the category up to 97 kg).

The best Moldovan representative in the women’s ranking so far is Mariana Dragutan. The bronze medalist of this year’s European Senior Championships is on the 14th position among the athletes up to 55 kg. Last year’s Olympic vice-champion Anastasia Nikita, who did not compete this year due to pregnancy, lost her place in the ranking. The athlete was elected to the 12th Parliament. She was appointed secretary of the parliamentary commission on national security, defense and public order.
