UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) called on the private sector and the international community to join forces to break the cycle of child poverty.
The organization proposes three key areas of action to combat inequality among children. These are: financing social protection programs for children and families; investing in early education, health and safe housing; and innovative partnerships that bring together expertise, technology and digital solutions for social inclusion. The organization emphasizes that no child should have to choose between food, school or health.
According to UNICEF, globally, 412 million children live on less than $3 a day and nearly 900 million lack the basic conditions for development. “Only through sustainable and trusting partnerships can we turn UNICEF initiatives from plans into real change for the most vulnerable children,” the organization said.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, at the beginning of this year there were 494,100 children under the age of 17 in Moldova, which is 20.7% of the total population. Last year, 23.6 thousand children were born in the country – by 2% less than a year earlier. At the same time, every fifth child in Moldova was born out of wedlock. In rural areas this indicator is even higher.
