The construction of the Orlovka-Isaccea bridge over the Danube will be part of a large southern transportation corridor and will connect Ukraine directly to the European Union via Romania, bypassing the Republic of Moldova.
The project is included in the Regional Reconstruction and Development Strategy for 2025-2027, published on the website of the Odessa Regional Council. This bridge will become part of the international route E87, which connects Ukraine with Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey.
Currently, drivers have to make a big detour through Moldova, crossing the border twice. In addition, the new bridge will shorten the distance to Isakci by about 80 kilometers.
The construction of the bridge will be financed by international aid – more than 12.6 billion hryvnias (about 27 million euros) over three years. UAH 1.26 billion will be allocated in 2025, nearly UAH 3.8 billion in 2026, and more than UAH 7.5 billion in 2027.
The next stages are design, environmental studies, actual construction of the bridge, access roads, as well as creation of checkpoints and exits to international roads.
