“Reciprocal tariffs go into effect immediately at midnight tonight,” Trump said on Aug. 6, shortly before midnight. – The measure will bring billions of dollars to the U.S., mostly from countries that have long benefited from the United States.”
It should be noted that Trump signed the executive order imposing import duties on the night of August 1. Most countries received a prime rate of 10-15%, and the highest tariffs were imposed on Syria, Laos, Myanmar, Switzerland and others.
Trump first announced the imposition of import duties on 211 states and territories in April. Most of them were subject to a base duty of 10% from April 5.
Trump urged to actively conclude deals that will reduce tariffs. Thus, the US managed to conclude trade deals with seven partners: the UK, the EU, South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia. In exchange for reduced duties of 15-20%, these countries agreed to large investments in the US, purchase of US goods and energy resources, as well as political and military cooperation.
So far, only a political agreement without legal force has been reached with the EU.
