Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf.

Such a move by Washington is directly related to ensuring safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, a senior Iranian source told Reuters a high-ranking Iranian source. The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) reported about the unfreezing of assets earlier.

At the same time, Reuters made a caveat that the US authorities have not made any public statements about the unfreezing of assets. But it recalls that the unfreezing of Iranian assets was cited by Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf as one of Iran’s two demands for the start of talks in Pakistan, which are due to begin on April 11.

A little later, there was a rebuttal from the US side about Washington’s intentions to unfreeze Iranian assets. “The United States has not agreed to unblock frozen Iranian assets, a senior U.S. official told CBS News television channel,” Russia’s RBC reported.
