Octavian Giaour has become a footballer of one of the most prestigious academies in Europe – Atletico Madrid. According to the Moldovan Football Federation, the 15-year-old goalkeeper signed a three-year contract. Giaur spent last season in the academy “Getafe”, and the transfer “under the wing” of one of the leading clubs in Spain indicates a significant progress of the young footballer. Earlier he was called up to the national youth teams of Moldova (U-15, U-16) and is one of the key players born in 2009-2010.
The young goalkeeper expressed his deep gratitude to his new club for the opportunity to study there. “I am honored to be part of a team with a rich history, passion and dedication to soccer. I am happy to wear the Atletico Madrid colors and give my best in every training session and every match. I want to thank my family, who believe in me, help me in everything and support me. Without them I would not have achieved all my successes. This is just the beginning, I promise to work hard and make all the necessary efforts to take on a great challenge,” said Octavian Giaour after signing the contract.
Giaur’s Moldovan U-16 national team partner David Ostafii has signed a one-year contract with the academy of Getafe club from Madrid. Last season, the 14-year-old defender was a player of the Rayo Vallecano academy, also located in the Spanish capital.
Both players were called up to the Moldovan national youth team (U-16) for two friendly matches against Azerbaijan (2:3, 1:2), held in June. Octavian Ghiaur played in both matches (in one of them he was substituted in the second half), David Ostafii took the field in one match, in which he was substituted in the 67th minute.
Soccer academies “Atletico Madrid” and “Getafe” have a solid infrastructure, they are part of the structure of clubs playing in the Spanish top league. “Atletico Madrid” – 11-time champion of Spain, three-time winner of the Europa League, 10-time winner of the National Cup. “Getafe” plays in the Spanish top league since 2004 (with a break for the season-2016/17), twice played in the final of the Spanish Cup.
