Two Moldovan canoeists became vice-champions of the world

Canoeists Daniela Kocu and Elena Glizan became silver medalists of the World Rowing Marathon Championships, which ended in Győr (Hungary), - reports Logos Press.

Two Moldovan canoeists became vice-champions of the world

Daniela Koczu won the silver medal in the 14.4km distance, which she covered in one hour 17 minutes 45.84 seconds. She was 29.71 seconds behind the winner Gyada Bragato of Hungary. Ukraine’s Lyudmyla Babak finished in third place, 32.44 seconds behind the 25-year-old Cociu. Another representative of Moldova in this swim – Maria Olarasu – was 10th among 13 participants.

Cociu also represented Moldova in the 3.6km single canoe event, where she took 11th place. In 2024, in tandem with Maria Olarasu, she won the silver medal at the World Canoe Sprint Championship in Samarkand (Uzbekistan).

The Border Police, where Daniela serves, congratulated the athlete, noting that “the high result is not only an outstanding sporting achievement, but also a proof of perseverance, discipline and competitive spirit”.

According to the results of the competition among athletes under 23 years old, Elena Glizan, who competed at a distance of 10.7 kilometers, climbed to the second step of the podium. She finished in 57:57.49, 23.71 seconds behind Lili Sara Matkovic of Hungary. The bronze medalist was Russia’s Alexandra Vlasova, competing under a neutral flag. She covered the distance 37.64 seconds later than her Moldovan rival. A total of 11 athletes from 10 countries took part in the race.

In the team medal standings, the Moldovan national team took the 11th place among 18 countries whose athletes won prizes. In total, more than 500 athletes from 44 countries took part in the championship.

Moldova was represented by 11 athletes – Elena Glizan, Daniela Cociu, Daria Macan, Maria Olarasu, Andrea Paraskev, Mihail Barbul, Mihail Chihaya, Alexandru Siman, Alexandru Tacu, Oleg and Serghei Tarnovski.
