Kevin Warsh, a possible candidate to head the Fed

Donald Trump’s official announcement of his choice is expected to be made on January 30.

The US President gave several hints earlier, saying that the regulator will be headed by a person who “could have taken the post a few years ago”. In addition, according to Trump, the name of the candidate is known to literally everyone in the financial world of the United States.

Warsh himself was already among the Fed governors from 2006 to 2011. Moreover, he was one of the candidates for the post of the head of the regulator during Trump’s first term – but then the US leader decided to give the place to Jerome Powell. As Bloomberg notes, the billionaire had time to regret this decision. The current director of the Fed is stubbornly resisting the President’s desire to more actively reduce the key rate. Warsh, by the way, in recent months echoed the criticism of the administration.

Warsh has close ties to Wall Street, now working with billionaire investor Stanley Drakenmiller, who is close to Scott Bessent, Treasury Secretary in the Trump administration.

Also of note is the fact that Warsh is married to Jane Lauder, granddaughter of cosmetics mogul Estee Lauder and daughter of Ronald Lauder, billionaire businessman and chairman of the World Jewish Congress.
