The Ministry of Health, when asked by Logos Press, presented the results of the transition of district hospitals from local authorities to the ministry.
The institution’s response states that since the entry into force of the amendments to the Law on Health Protection, more than 130,000 m² of medical wards, food units, operating rooms, intensive care and sterilization units have been renovated and modernized. Hospitals have installed elevators, autonomous energy supply systems (solar panels, electric generators) and improved patient safety conditions.
Centralized subordination and coordination allowed the introduction of new services previously unavailable at the district level: stroke centers were created, high-tech research was introduced, operating rooms were equipped with laparoscopic equipment for minimally invasive interventions, blood transfusion departments and operating units were modernized in accordance with modern standards.
“A special example of the positive impact on the health of the population was the National Stroke Medical Service with an investment of about 200 million lei. This has halved the time from the onset of symptoms to hospitalization, increased fivefold the number of thrombolysis and doubled the number of thrombectomies. In 2024, 4,795 patients with suspected stroke were examined in district hospitals alone, of whom the diagnosis was confirmed in 3,377. All of them received treatment previously unavailable at the district level, which saved the lives of patients,” the Ministry of Health’s response noted.
In addition, the subordination of regional hospitals to the Ministry of Health allowed for better coordination of investments, attracting external grants, standardizing management and integrating district hospitals into the national networks of stroke, oncology and perinatology services, reducing the need to move patients to Chisinau.
