Moldovan rugby players performed with dignity at the home arena "Dinamo"
Out of six matches played by rugby players at the home stage of the European Rugby Series, three matches ended with victory of our athletes and three – with defeats. Ion Chebotar’s wards defeated opponents from Switzerland (10:5), Slovakia (20:7) and in the match for seventh place – Austria. However, defeats in matches against Denmark (7:32), Ukraine (0:33) and Romania (5:21) did not allow the national team of Moldova to compete for a higher place.
The best at the end of the second stage of the European series was the women’s national team of Turkey, in the final defeated rivals from Denmark with a score of 24:12. Hungarian rugby players took the third place, in the final match of the stage defeated their Ukrainian rivals with the score 19:17.
The Turkish women’s national team tops the European Women’s 2025 Series standings after two rounds. It has 40 points. The second place with 36 points is occupied by the Danish national team. The third line is shared by the national teams of Hungary and Ukraine, which have 30 points each. The Moldovan team with 14 points occupies the eighth place.
The reigning World Rugby Sevens champions are the Australian women, who defeated their rivals from New Zealand in the final of the World Cup in 2022. The bronze medals were won by the women’s teams of France and the United States.
Earlier, LP reported that at the end of the European Series in Chisinau, the men’s rugby sevens team also took seventh place.
