Under the new teacher training program, theater arts will be integrated into the school curriculum, similar to music and fine arts. The Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts (AMTAR) will train teachers. Now the Academy, as well as other universities in the country, is in the midst of accepting applicants. AMTAR has already registered a high demand at the first stage.
“Now we have a lot of places for pedagogical specialties, – comments AMTAP rector Victoria Melnik. – This year we opened a new pedagogical specialty in the field of theater, until now there were “Music Pedagogy” and “Dance Pedagogy”. The specialty “Theater Pedagogy” prepares teachers of theater disciplines for secondary schools”.
A “Social Theatre” program aimed at combating bullying and discrimination is already being implemented in 60 schools in Moldova, which will include performances and other activities.
In addition, the Ministry of Education and the Luceafărul Theater signed an agreement under which students and teachers will be able to attend theater workshops and receive discounts on tickets.
Last year, the Academy opened two more new specialties: “Animation” and “Symphonic Conducting”. “Symphonic conducting is the most difficult musical profession,” explains the rector. – And candidates are required to have a very serious musical background. For two people who entered it last year, this is already their second musical education. We do not expect candidates for this specialty to appear every year. And there are not so many orchestras in Chisinau, so we can’t provide graduates with employment. But in principle, this specialty is important and necessary”.
The increased interest in “Animation” was also observed last year, and now there are many applications.
This year the Academy has 165 budget places for the first cycle – licentiate, of which 140 – in the field of art, and 25 – for pedagogical specialties. There was a competition for art in all directions, there was also an increased interest in theater pedagogy. The enrollment in Music and Dance was somewhat weaker, but this is traditional.
For the second cycle – Master’s degree – 75 budgetary places, 15 of them – for pedagogical specialties “Music” and “Dance”, for “Theater” Master’s degree will be announced only in three years. Also allocated 60 places in all directions in the field of art, there is always a good competition, and so far about 15 people have remained outside the possibilities of the budget.
In AMTAP, exams are held in almost all specialties for the first cycle, for the second – Master’s – are mandatory for all professions without exception.
It should be noted that there are 16 higher education institutions in Moldova: 12 state universities (8 in Chisinau and one each in Balti, Cahul, Comrat and Taraclia), as well as 4 private ones. In total, the system covers 200 specializations and study programs.
