There will be 33 speeches from Moldova at the OIV World Congress

As Stefan Iamandi, Director of the National Bureau of Grape and Wine, said at a meeting with journalists, it took the efforts of various state bodies for seven years to make these events happen in our country. As a result, last October, at the 45th World Congress (in Dijon, France), all representatives voted in favor of holding the next Congress in our country.

These forums are held once a year and are the main international center of innovation and excellence in viticulture and winemaking. Each country, organizing the Congress, proposes a topic for discussions. Moldova has chosen “Shaping the future of wine: embracing sustainability, enhancing value, encouraging innovation”. Discussions will be held in four scientific commissions – “Oenology”, “Viticulture”, “Economy and Law”, “Health and Safety”.

“When we discussed these topics, we tried to make sure that they correspond to the global trends and, at the same time, to the potential of the Republic of Moldova,” says Stefan Iamandi. – Therefore, we proposed topics that are also interesting for us. From December last year to February this year, the academic community had three months to submit summaries of their papers for presentations to the four scientific commissions. In total, more than 350 abstracts were submitted. In March, the selection committee reviewed all applications for their relevance to the topics of the Congress. From the scientific community of Moldova 33 abstracts were submitted, and all of them were approved. According to this indicator, our country took the second place, the first – Italy. This is a very important result for us, because it is necessary to present to the academic community from all over the world that Moldova has experts in this field, who have something to tell the world”.

Those who have submitted summaries of their papers will speak within the scientific commissions of the OIV Congress, which will meet on June 16-18. Also among the guests of the event are representatives of academia, business, government agencies, including ministries of agriculture from different countries. There will also be foreign press. The official opening of the Congress will be attended by the Head of State Maia Sandu.

After three days of work in the commissions, a technical break is scheduled for June 19, during which the participants will divide into groups and go on 13 tours around Moldova. The wine tours include not only wineries, but also museums, monasteries, natural sights, in order to present, besides wines, Moldovan culture, cuisine and, of course, our hospitality. In the evening of the same day, the Congress participants will be invited to an open-air gala dinner at the entrance to the underground wine city Cricova.

And on June 20, the 23rd General Assembly of the OIV will take place, where only official delegations of each country will participate in order to make some decisions. OIV resolutions are of a recommendatory nature. The member countries of the International Organization of Grape and Wine then implement them into national legislation.
