The new 400 kV transmission line will directly connect Moldova with Romania and the European energy system, thus diversifying the possibilities for electricity supply.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced the new stage in the construction of the interconnection line with the Romanian and EU energy systems. Previously, USAID was the financial partner of the project. The construction of the Straseni-Gutinas transmission line was part of the $300 million Moldova Conectată program, a major USAID initiative to strengthen Moldova’s energy security and autonomy by connecting the local energy infrastructure to the European one.
The line will be 190 kilometers long (70 kilometers on Moldovan territory). Thus, after the Chisinau-Vulcanesti line, which will be ready this year, Moldova will have two more high-voltage lines. One in the northern part of the country between Balti and Suceava, which is at the design stage, and the other in the central region, Straseni – Gutinas.
