The State Tax Service has identified individuals with high tax risk

This is 67% more compared to the results of 2023. The penalty for late payment amounted to 3.81 million lei. The data are presented on the website of the State Tax Service.

Individuals with high tax risk are citizens, to whom tax service specialists apply the so-called “indirect methods of assessing taxable income”. These methods involve the use of information from a wider range of sources than the tax reports of the individual. These include banks and payment companies, the State Services Agency, cadastre authorities, notaries, travel agencies, etc. public and private entities that provide the STS with data on income and expenditures of individuals.

To encourage violators to voluntarily fulfill tax obligations before the application of enforcement measures, STS specialists held individual meetings with 402 taxpayers. They were held both in physical format and online by electronic means, the STS report says.

During these meetings, the taxpayers were provided with the STS information on their income and expenses for the analyzed period. Violators were able to confirm undeclared income by submitting the relevant documents.

As a result of these meetings, 150 individuals filed CET 18 declarations for the reporting period – 32% more as compared to 2023. Additional taxable income amounting to 163.71 million lei was declared (+90% as compared to the 2023 result). This includes 77.44 million lei in the form of capital gains.

In general, the number of citizens underreporting their income decreased last year. In 2023, tax officials identified 524 offenders.
