A group of deputies of the parliamentary commission for national security, defense and public order has drafted a bill amending the law on the State Guard Service. The amendments are aimed at more effective cooperation with European structures in the field of protection of persons in need of special security measures.
In particular, the State Guard Service will be able to participate in the European Network for the Protection of Public Persons in order to ensure an adequate level of protection of high-ranking officials. This will make it possible to promptly receive information about possible threats and coordinate security measures at the international level.
The authors do not specify which forms of participation, limits of competence and specific conditions are meant. The commission is currently holding public consultations on the content of the draft. Objections and recommendations will be accepted until March 16.
The draft law is developed within the framework of the National Program of Moldova’s accession to the European Union.
The creation of the European Network for the Protection of Public Persons was enshrined by the EU Council Decision in 2002. The Network protects public persons during official and unofficial visits to EU countries, as well as to candidate countries.
