The iconic '90s supercar Jaguar XJ220 is up for auction

The legendary British coupe, which in the early 90s was considered the fastest production car on the planet, could go under the hammer for between $575,000 and $675,000.

Time capsule with a mileage of just over a thousand kilometers

In 32 years, this XJ220 has traveled only 1,257 kilometers. In fact, we are talking about a “time capsule”: the car is preserved in almost factory condition, writes the auction house. Initially, the supercar was ordered by a wealthy client from Austria, after which it was stored in private collections in Luxembourg and the UK.

The body, interior and powertrain are in immaculate condition. Despite the minimal mileage, the car has undergone an extensive technical inspection, confirming it is in perfect working order.

Icon of the 90’s with atypical design

The Jaguar XJ220 was one of the most striking and rare models in the history of the British Jaguar brand. The streamlined coupe, almost 4.9 meters long, has an unusual design for the brand – an elongated silhouette, low stance and spectacular retractable headlights.

Under the hood is installed 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 with an output of 550 hp, working in tandem with a 5-speed manual transmission. In 1992, the model set the world speed record among production cars – 349.4 km/h. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes only 3.8 seconds, which even by modern standards remains an impressive figure.

A record-breaker that did not become a commercial hit

Despite its outstanding performance, the XJ220 failed to meet initial sales expectations. At the announcement stage, the model was promised to be equipped with an atmospheric V12, but in the production version it was abandoned in favor of a more compact turbocharged V6. This decision disappointed some customers.

As a result, only 281 coupes were assembled during the entire production period, which today makes the XJ220 a desirable object for collectors around the world.

Now one of the best-preserved examples of this 90s legend is once again looking for an owner – and judging by its condition and history, its price may well be near the upper end of the stated range.
