Alpine skier Franjo von Allmen of Switzerland has become the first Olympic champion of the 2026 Games, according to Logos Press.

Allmen won the downhill competition. He covered the distance in 1 min 51.61 sec. Italians Giovanni Franzoni and Dominique Paris took second and third places, 0.2 sec and 0.5 sec behind the winner, respectively.

The competition was attended by 36 athletes from 17 countries. The Stelvio ski slope is located in Bormio, 200 km north-east of Milan.

For 24-year-old Franjo von Allmen, the Olympics in Italy was the debut in his career. He is a two-time world champion in downhill and team combined, and has repeatedly won World Cup competitions.

The XXV Winter Olympic Games are being held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo in northern Italy from February 6-22. About 2.9 thousand athletes from 93 countries are taking part in them. Moldova is represented by six athletes, one of whom is a reserve.

During 17 days, 116 sets of medals in eight sports will be played at the Olympics.
