This was reported by Moldovan Ambassador to the USA Vladislav Culminschi after a series of meetings at the US Department of State. In particular, he discussed these issues with Kirstin Selinger, acting U.S. assistance coordinator for Europe, Eurasia and Central Asia.
According to him, the strategic project of the Straseni-Gutinash power transmission line is progressing and showing important results.
“This project is a strategic U.S. investment and clear proof that the United States sees Moldova’s potential and trusts our relationship. …We want to open even more opportunities for American energy companies in Moldova and, through Moldova, in the whole region,” Culminschi said.
Recall that the Straseni-Gutinas power transmission line is fully funded by the United States under a $130 million grant and is part of a plan to strengthen Moldova’s energy security.
One of the main expected effects of the project is to increase the capacity of electricity transmission between Moldova and the European ENTSO-E grid. This will allow Moldova to buy and sell electricity more actively, receive more favorable prices, and have access to a larger and more stable energy market.
The total length of the line will be about 190 kilometers: about 70 kilometers will run through Moldova and about 120 kilometers through Romania. This will be the third 400 kV high-voltage line connecting Moldova and Romania.
