This was announced by Moldovan Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu. According to him, the construction of substations in Chisinau and Vulcanesti is also planned to be completed in the near future.
The line is 157 kilometers long and includes more than 500 supports, as well as about 1,500 kilometers of wires. The transmission line provides a strategic link between the south and the center of the country, crossing eight districts and 35 settlements.
The transmission line starts at a substation in Isaccea, Romania, from which there is an existing line to Vulcanesti. Previously, it was part of the electricity supply system from the Moldavian TPP in Cuciurgani to Romania and the Balkans.
Once operational, the Vulcanesti-Chisinau overhead line will be able to cover more than 50% of Moldova’s energy consumption during peak periods, depending on the operating mode of the energy system. The works are carried out within the framework of the Energy System Development Project, an initiative aimed at increasing Moldova’s energy security.
The project is financed by the World Bank and has a total cost of €61 million, of which approximately €27 million is earmarked for the construction of the Vulcanesti-Chisinau overhead transmission line.
