This is reported by the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The information emphasizes that the EES is a modern, fully automated and digital electronic tool that replaces the stamping of passports in most participating European countries. The system is being implemented in phases from October 12, 2025.
The new system aims to modernize and optimize border controls, enhance security in the Schengen area and prevent illegal stays without changing existing travel rights.
The entry/exit system at the EU’s external borders has been designed and implemented for the following purposes:
– Modernizes border controls and gradually reduces waiting times;
– quickly identifies non-EU nationals who do not meet the conditions of entry/stay or who have exceeded the period of stay in the Schengen area;
– contributes to improved security at Europe’s borders;
– enables the use of automated border control systems for biometric passport holders (where possible).
