The working group will focus exclusively on the agri-food sector, reflecting the Government’s recognition of the key role of agriculture to the country’s economy and the need to support and modernize the industry.
Earlier, opposition MPs accused the authorities of neglecting the sector and pointed out the state’s debt to agricultural producers amounting to 3.4 billion lei. They also pointed out the limited protection of domestic producers from imports: the introduction of a mandatory 50% share of domestic products on the shelves is constantly rejected by the representatives of the ruling party.
In response to the crisis situations in the sector, at the end of the fall-winter session of the Parliament, a law was adopted on a temporary moratorium on the forced recovery of the property of some categories of farmers, in particular those who became insolvent due to natural disasters in 2024-2025.
In addition to work on the agribusiness sector, the Economic Council plans to minimize bureaucratic processes, digitalize services for companies and reduce administrative burdens in 2026. The aim of these measures is to simplify the work of entrepreneurs and increase the transparency and investment attractiveness of the business environment.
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu emphasized at the Council’s meeting that this body “should evolve from a consultative platform to an interactive partnership to support a balanced economic policy”.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Eugeniu Osmokescu called on business representatives and experts to participate in the development of practical solutions and implementation of European norms in the Moldovan specialized legislation.
The Economic Council under the prime minister was created in 2011. Today, it is made up of 148 members from the private sector, public authorities, academic institutions, research centers and international organizations. The Council serves as a platform for dialog and joint work to create a transparent, predictable and investment-attractive business environment.
