
The winning settlement will host local and national competitions, sports festivals, thematic events (conferences, roundtables), as well as training courses for local sports professionals during 2026 as a “Sports Capital”. The specialized agency will provide the winner with all necessary support for the development and implementation of the sports agenda action plan. The activities will be planned taking into account the existing sports infrastructure.
Winning the competition will help to attract investments for the development of local sports infrastructure and become an example of best practice in the field of sport and physical activity at the national level. Promoting equal opportunities, integrity in sport and sports diplomacy are also important objectives of the competition.
The Ministry of Education and Research is accepting entries until January 30. During the month, the ministry will conduct a series of campaigns to inform and instruct local public authorities about the procedure of filling in and submitting applications. The contest “Sports Capital of Moldova” is organized for the second consecutive year. Last year, the city of Calarasi held this status. The winning city received 1 million lei from the state budget to organize sports events.
