The Center for Countering Disinformation will report to the country’s president

The Center for Strategic Communications and Countering Misinformation will be renamed the Center for Strategic Communications and Countering Misinformation. This agency will focus on disinformation through prevention and public education.

At the same time, the director of the center will be included in the Supreme Security Council. The director will be appointed and dismissed personally by the president of the country.

It is also proposed to create a new format of the Advisory Council at the Center for Strategic Communication and Countering Disinformation. The council’s decisions will be of a recommendatory nature. Its members can be civil servants, representatives of the academic environment, personalities with known professional activities, representatives of strategic and developing partners, experts with known activities in the field of public communication, security and defense, state administration, and international relations.

Membership in the council will be voluntary.

The council will make suggestions for the improvement of the center’s activities and provide support in areas of expertise.

The draft law clarifies a number of terms, such as strategic communication, information manipulation actions and foreign interference, in line with the definitions used in the European Community.

The legislative initiative was drafted by a group of PAS deputies and is to be considered by the Parliament in the second reading.
