
This significant budget cut is because 2026 will be a rare year without an election. The next one will take place only in 2027 – general local elections.
Of the total amount, 48,188.6 thousand lei is envisaged for the activity of the commission itself, and 15,005.2 thousand lei for the activity of the second-level territorial electoral commissions. More than 66,603.8 thousand lei will be allocated to finance political parties.
The budget of the Center for Continuous Electoral Education is planned to be 5,348.2 thousand lei.
13,059.5 thousand lei is envisaged for the organization and holding of new local elections in some localities, while the expenses for the partial implementation of voting by mail will amount to 400 thousand lei.
For comparison, the CEC budget for 2025, when parliamentary elections were held, amounted to 341,581.1 thousand lei, and for 2024 (presidential elections and referendum) – even more: 426,554.4 thousand lei.
The draft budget of the Central Electoral Commission has to be approved by Parliament.
