The lawyers will discuss the situation regarding the compulsory health insurance policy for members of the profession. Previously, they paid a preferential fixed fee of 5,054 lei. During consultations with the state, it was agreed to raise it to 5,686 lei. However, in the end, without consulting the lawyers, the state set for them a fixed amount of insurance contribution of 12,636 lei.
According to the chairman of the Union, Dorin Popescu, about 50% of lawyers have an income below the economic average.
“Such a drastic increase in the tax burden on the profession is illegal, contradicts common sense and creates the risk of mass abandonment of the legal profession,” Popescu said.
The Bar Association emphasizes that the state has violated Article 4, paragraph 3 of the Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of the Legal Profession by failing to agree on changes directly affecting the professional activity of lawyers.
The meeting on January 5 will discuss further steps of the professional community in response to the situation.
Recall that until March 31, self-employed persons who are obliged to insure themselves can purchase a policy of compulsory health insurance at a reduced price.
