The Games were officially over after the Olympic flame was extinguished and the baton was handed over to the French Alps. The next Paralympics will be held there in 2030.
Colorful show
During the ceremony, the arena hosted a large-scale show with lighting effects, music and live performances to match the atmosphere of the competition. The cultural program of the event focused on Italian art and the local characteristics of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, where most of the competition took place.
Results and acknowledgements
The organizers summarized the results of the competition and thanked all Paralympians for their participation. In his speech, International Paralympic Committee President Andrew Parsons recognized the determination and courage of the participants. “You have reminded the world that ability is not defined by limitations, but by determination, courage and the pursuit of excellence. The Games have shown that sport can bring people together through respect, fairness and human achievement,” he said, addressing the Paralympians.
The Winter Paralympics lasted 10 days. About 700 athletes with physical and mental disabilities took part in it and competed for 79 sets of medals in six disciplines – biathlon, alpine skiing, wheelchair curling, cross-country skiing, sledge hockey and snowboarding. This time Moldova was not among the 50 or so participating countries.
