The amphitheater in Verona is almost 2 thousand years old
The closing ceremony will take place on February 22, starting at 21:00 Chisinau time. The ceremony will feature performances by, among others, musician DJ Gabri Ponte, the orchestra and choir of the Arena di Verona Foundation and the famous ballet dancer Roberto Bolle.
The Arena di Verona did not host any competitions during the Olympics. In addition to the closing ceremony of the Olympics, it will host the opening ceremony of the XIV Winter Paralympic Games on March 6.
The amphitheater in Verona is the third largest in Italy. It was built in 30 AD. At different times it has been the venue for gladiatorial fights, bullfights, festivals, opera performances, and in the Middle Ages it was used for the execution of Inquisition trials.
In 2000, the amphitheater was included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Its capacity is 15 thousand people.
The XXV Winter Olympic Games are held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo in northern Italy. About 2.9 thousand athletes from 93 countries take part in them. During 16 days of competition 116 sets of medals are played.
