Teachers and employees of the education and science sector demand from the authorities urgent solutions for the educational system, namely an increase in the basic calculation value. The action is taking place on the day when parliamentary committees are discussing the draft Budget Law for the second reading.
The action consists of teachers and researchers from all over the country raising a blank white sheet – “a symbol of dignity and of the future not yet written” – and reading aloud Article 43 of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, which guarantees the right to work and fair pay.
Earlier, the Federation of Trade Unions of Education and Science called on teachers to sign an online petition against the freezing of the basic calculation value in the budget for 2026. The union emphasized that rising inflation and the gap between the average wage in the economy and pay in education undermine the attractiveness of the profession and negatively affect the system as a whole. FSEȘ pointed out that “real, verified signatures are needed to influence parliamentary committees, not reactions on social media, and called for the petition to be circulated among colleagues and in local communities.”
As previously wrote Logos Press, the draft State Budget Law for 2026 provides for an increase of only one estimated value – from LE 2,200 to LE 2,400 – only for a limited number of employees. At the same time, the estimated value of 2500 lei, which is applied for the majority of budgetary employees (teachers, medical personnel, employees of the Interior Ministry, penitentiary system and other institutions), is not adjusted, although according to the law it should be indexed annually at least by the inflation rate. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the average monthly nominal gross salary by economic activity in the third quarter of 2025 amounted to 15,487.8 lei, while in the education sector it amounted to 12,713.3 lei or 82.1% of the average for the economy.
