It is on March 25 that companies “close the year” every year. This is the deadline for companies and individuals engaged in entrepreneurial activities to declare their income for the completed tax period and pay the relevant tax. Therefore, the record is largely due to this circumstance.

As noted in the information of the State Tax Service, this is the highest indicator of tax revenues to the treasury for one day so far. Compared to March 25 last year, when the taxes amounted to about 1.32 billion lei, the amount increased by 15.47% in 2026. At the same time, compared to the 2024 figure, the two-year increase amounted to 28.28%. This shows a positive trend of strengthening tax discipline.

The STS also notes that yesterday’s tax revenues to the budget amounted to about 40% of the total for March. As of March 25, they reached 3.87 billion lei.

“A direct investment in the well-being of citizens”

The ministry said in a statement that each tax contribution “represents a direct investment in Moldova’s development and in the well-being of citizens.”

The STS urges taxpayers to fully and timely fulfill their tax obligations, as every leu paid contributes to the strengthening of the national economy and the implementation of social programs aimed at the welfare of the society.

Experts also note that the reason for such an impressive growth of tax revenues is explained both by the measures taken to combat the shadow economy, including the restriction of cash payments, as well as by inflationary processes and the growth of the taxable base.
