According to the State Tax Service (STS), from January to May, 11,780 lease agreements for real estate leased by individuals were registered, which is 13% more than last year.

During this period, an additional 764 individuals renting out real estate were identified. At the same time, after inspections against 101 lessors, the basic payments in the amount of 244,600 lei were collected to the budget, as well as penalties for late payment in the amount of 10,000 lei and fines in the amount of 13,600 lei.

According to the legislation, individuals who do not carry out entrepreneurial activity and rent immovable property should pay income tax to the State Tax Service in the amount of 7% of the monthly value of the contract not later than on the 25th of the current month.

This also applies to individuals renting out real estate to other individuals through the use of Booking, Airbnb and other platforms.

According to real estate market operators, the increase in the number of rental contracts and the amount of taxes levied was influenced by a number of factors, such as the legalization of the rental housing market, the development of cashless payments and a reasonable tax rate.
