In November, Moldova exported 19.7 thousand tons of sunflower oil – the maximum monthly volume this year. A total of 38.2 thousand tons of sunflower oil was exported from the country during July-November 2025, which is more than seven times higher than in the same period of 2024 (5.2 thousand tons). The impressive growth of external supplies is due to the resumption of sunflower oil production at the largest specialized enterprise in Moldova – Floarea Soarelui SA (Balti).
However, actual exports of Moldovan sunflower oil are still far below the potential demonstrated at the beginning of this decade. Thus, from July to November 2023 Moldova exported almost 98 thousand tons, in the same period of 2022 – more than 70 thousand tons of this product. Compared to the level of external supplies for these years, exports in the months of the current year are lower by 61% and 46%, respectively.
In the first half of this year, along with the physical exports of sunflower oil began to strengthen and its financial indicators. Thus, during this period, the revenues from the export of this commodity amounted to 831 million lei, whereas in the same period last year – only 95 million lei. However, the financial revenues from oil exports are still significantly lower than the historical maximum (1.87 billion in 2022, 1.46 billion in 2023).
