This was stated by the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), Sergiu Harea, making it clear that Belarusian products can enter the Moldovan market at artificially low prices at the expense of state support.

“Now we are discussing the introduction of protective measures against sugar imports from Belarus, which directly subsidizes processing enterprises and provides them with state support. In particular, at the expense of below-market gas prices, the state actually subsidizes businesses, facilitating activities in the processing sector and thus supporting agricultural enterprises,” said Harea.

He specified that earlier Moldova had already applied similar protective measures against sugar imports from Serbia. Now the relevant agencies are analyzing the possibility of extending such mechanisms to supplies from Belarus.

“The best tools against such phenomena as dumping prices are protective measures,” said the CCI chairman.

He recalled that such protective measures have been in effect in Moldova for 15 years with regard to sugar from Ukraine.

At the same time, Finance Minister Andrian Gavrilica said that there are other areas in which the application of anti-dumping measures should be considered.

These issues will be discussed on 5 February at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Eugeniu Osmochescu.
