In the raw material zone of the company, the beet crop will be harvested from an area of almost 7.4 thousand hectares. The representatives of Südzucker Moldova do not yet announce the forecast for the harvest of this important technical crop. The situation will strongly depend on the weather conditions during the harvesting campaign, which is expected to last 80-90 days. Rains in September can still have a significant positive impact on the condition of plantations. If there is no rainfall, at least one third of all beet fields will have a modest harvest.
The problem also lies in the fact that at least 80% of the sugar beet crops were severely damaged by the spring frosts and have been reseeded. In particular, Südzucker Moldova partners reseeded 5.2 thousand hectares of sugar beet plantations. After this operation, the yield potential of late-sown sugar beet crops is not very high.
At the moment, the potential yield interval of beet plantations is estimated at 35-45 tons/ha. Sugar beet yields of 40 t/ha and higher are considered good in the conditions of rainfed agriculture in Moldova.
About 11 thousand hectares have been contracted for the crop-2025 in Moldova by two sugar producing companies (Südzucker Moldova and Moldova Zahăr). Last year, sugar beet crops amounted to about 12 thousand hectares.
