The athlete came third in the jerk in the weight category up to 61 kg with a result of 150 kg. In the snatch, the Moldovan weightlifter reached a weight of 120 kg, which allowed him to take the 5th place. At the end of two exercises with a total weight of 270 kg, he took the 4th place (total weight 270 kg).
At the recent European Weightlifting Championships held in Chisinau, 19-year-old Ion Badanev also won a small bronze medal in the jerk. He lifted a barbell weighing 152 kg.
Young Moldovan weightlifters achieved even more significant successes in the youth competitions (among athletes under 17 years old). They are also held in Lima.
Danu Secrieru became the absolute world champion U-17, winning one big and two small gold medals in the weight category up to 55 kg. In the snatch he won 107 kg and in the jerk – 132 kg (total weight 239 kg). At the recent European Senior Championships held in Chisinau, the 17-year-old weightlifter won a silver medal.
Dan Betka won the big silver, small gold and small bronze medals in the weight category up to 67 kg. He was the best in the snatch, lifting a barbell weighing 122 kg. In the jerk he demonstrated the 3rd result with a weight of 146 kg. With a total weight of 268 kg, the weightlifter climbed to the second step of the podium.
In the competition among girls under 17 years old in the weight category up to 55 kg, Nicoleta Cojocaru won a big bronze and a small silver medal. She was second in the snatch, lifting a bar weighing 82 kg. The weightlifter became 4th in the snatch, lifting 100 kg (total weight 182 kg).
The World Youth Weightlifting Championships will continue in the capital of Peru until May 5.
