
Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, will address the Conference
The Conference is expected to provide an opportunity for Member States to reaffirm their commitment to social justice and to make further commitments under the European Social Charter.
According to a Council of Europe press release, the Conference will be attended by ministers and high-level officials responsible for social rights and social policy, Council of Europe leaders, representatives of European Union institutions, the United Nations and the International Labour Organization, as well as representatives of civil society, social partners, academia, national human rights organizations, equality bodies and their European networks.
The discussions will center on a high-level political dialogue on the future of social rights in Europe.
Discussions will focus on the importance of social rights enshrined in the European Social Charter, the Council of Europe’s New Democratic Covenant for Europe, and ways to further enhance the relevance and impact of the Charter. Participants will consider the key role of social rights in ensuring security and democratic stability, the future of the labor market in the context of accelerated development of artificial intelligence and new technologies, and the complex challenges posed by multiple ongoing conflicts, demographic shifts and climate change.
Representatives of Member States will be invited to adopt a forward-looking political declaration reflecting their commitment to social rights and the European Social Charter, and proposing further actions.
The Conference will be addressed by the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset.
