On the Moldovan side, the document was signed by the chairman of the parliamentary commission for European integration, Marcel Spatar.

The parliamentarians note “the significant progress of the Republic of Moldova on the path of European integration, including the accelerated promotion of reforms and the approximation of legislation to EU norms”. The key role of the country’s parliament in promoting the legislative agenda related to European integration was separately emphasized.

“The declaration calls on the member states and the European Union to take the necessary measures to open formal negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union in all clusters, so that the accession process continues and is accelerated in the nearest period, in order to maintain the momentum we have recorded recently,” Marcel Spatar said during the final conference.

According to the parliament’s press service, citing the test of the document, “in the current geopolitical context, the accession of Moldova and Ukraine to the European Union will contribute to the consolidation of peace, security, stability and prosperity, as well as to the strengthening of democratic sustainability in the region”.

The authors of the document insist that the EU enlargement process should remain merit-based, predictable and credible.

Also, the participants in the statement reiterated their willingness to continue supporting reforms in Moldova, to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation and to contribute to the integration process.

The representatives of the seven parliaments call on MPs and all political leaders to “show responsibility, unity and determination in promoting the European reform agenda”.
