
Sergey Tarnovsky was just over a second short of becoming world champion
In the singles canoe race, the 28-year-old Tarnovsky covered the 500-meter course in one minute 47.38 seconds. He finished 1.11 seconds behind Russia’s Zakhar Petrov, who competed in neutral status. The silver medalist was Czech Republic’s Martin Fuksa, who crossed the finish line 0.27 seconds ahead of Tarnovsky.
Tarnovsky is a two-time Olympic bronze medalist (2021, 2024), two-time world champion (2022, 2024) and two-time European champion (2024, 2025) in canoe single sculls. He is a native of Lviv and started his sporting career in Ukraine. Since 2013, he has represented Moldova in international competitions. In 2022 he was awarded the Order of Honor of the Republic of Moldova.
The World Championship was held at the rowing canal in Milan from August 20 to 24. Within the tournament, 24 sets of medals were played (12 each among kayakers and canoeists).
