The charity action “Seeds of Hope” was initiated by the Forța Fermierilor Association back in the summer, when it became evident that farmers in the mentioned areas would lose most or almost all of their second-group field crops due to drought. The action took place intermittently, as Forța Fermierilor’s press release notes, “due to attempts by Promo-Lex and the Central Electoral Commission to unfairly politicize this humanitarian action during the election campaign”. Therefore, the distribution of seeds donated by members of the association to their professional colleagues ended only in October.
Alexandru Bădăreu, executive director of Forța Fermierilor, estimates that the market price of the seeds collected and distributed within the Seeds of Hope campaign exceeds 0.5 million lei, enough to sow (with wheat, barley, peas) about 1,000 hectares. “This is a modest help, but it is a manifestation of unity and mutual support,” says the head of the organization. Our solidarity is the only strength that small and medium-sized farmers can count on”.
Earlier Logos Press wrote that the Forța Fermierilor Association demanded from the government four urgent measures to support farmers from the most drought-affected regions of Moldova. Namely: full reimbursement of VAT accumulated by farmers from the mentioned regions; refund of excise tax on diesel fuel used in agriculture; adoption of urgent legislative and fiscal measures aimed at adapting to climate change; granting the southern region of the country a special status with special support measures. The Government has not responded to any of these requests.
