On the margins of the celebration, Cypriot President Nicos Christodoulides met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the morning. According to Christodoulides’ daily schedule, no separate meeting with Maia Sandu was scheduled.

The ceremony is being held in the Cypriot capital, Nicosia, on the main stage of the State Theater of Cyprus. The modern theater building, built in 2012, regularly hosts performances, workshops and international meetings. Its creative director Costas Silvestros was the director of the ceremony’s cultural program. According to Cypriot media, the three-act production titled will combine music, dance, theater, poetry, visual images and digital technology to tell the story of Cyprus.

The main events are scheduled for Wednesday evening.

Recall that on January 1, Cyprus began a rotating presidency of the Council of the EU for a period of six months. The presidency program focuses on EU enlargement, which is seen as a strategic investment in the autonomy and security of the Union, as well as an instrument to strengthen peace and stability in Europe. Moldova is mentioned twice in the program. In particular, “the Presidency seeks further significant progress in the enlargement process for the partners from the Western Balkans, as well as for Ukraine and Moldova”.
