Russian language in Moldova is still important for life and work

The Ministry of Education and Research notes that modern realities require from graduates not only the knowledge of language rules, but also the skills of professional and business communication, working with information and effective interaction in the international environment. In this context, the ministry proposes a new Concept of the school discipline “Russian language” for Romanian-language educational institutions (gymnasium level).

The document will form the basis of Curriculum 2027. It aims to make learning Russian more practical. The language is seen as “a means of intercultural dialog and a link of cultural heritage in the multilingual context of the Republic of Moldova”. Digitalization processes and other modern trends are also taken into account.

The authors of the concept emphasize that Russian language teaching should contribute to the formation of not only linguistic and professional skills, but also “civic position of students – respect for cultural diversity, ability for responsible and ethical communication, readiness to interact in a multilingual society”.

The Ministry of Education and Research invites teachers, specialists and parents to take part in the public discussion of the draft concept and send their suggestions by means of the questionnaire.
