Djordje Simion

33.4% of Romanian voters are ready to vote for him in the first round. These are the results of an AtlasIntel poll conducted from April 10 to 13, commissioned by Hotnews. At the same time, Simion’s support increased significantly compared to the March poll – a month ago, 30.4% of Romanians were ready to vote for him.

The preference rating of the candidate from the government coalition “Romania Forward”, Crin Antonescu, has jumped even more, with 24.7% of voters ready to vote for him. This is an increase of almost 7% compared to the March poll, which allowed him to surpass the independent candidate, Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan. The latter’s support fell from 26% to 21.2%.

The authors of the survey emphasize that the poll was conducted after the decision of the Romanian Salvation Union (SSR) party to stop supporting the candidacy of Elena Lasconi in the presidential election.

Lasconi entered the second round of the presidential election last December together with far-right populist Calin Georgescu. Moldovan President Maia Sandu openly supported the SSR representative, but everyone gave an unconditional victory in the second round to Georgescu. Because of this, they were canceled, which became a big scandal for the whole Europe.

In the upcoming elections in Romania on May 4, 2025, the ruling party in Moldova “Action and Solidarity” supported the candidacy of Crin Antonescu. The announcement was made last week by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu at a press conference with the participation of the candidate himself.

At the same time, an AtlasIntel poll showed that George Simion would win the second round of the Romanian presidential election regardless of which of the other candidates would be his opponent.

The poll was conducted on a sample of 2,994 respondents using a random digital recruitment method. It has a margin of error of ±2 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
