During his working visit to Brasov, Environment Minister Gheorghe Hajder agreed on the final details of this project’s realization.
The program will be implemented by mixed teams of experts from Romania from the National Institute of Forestry Research and Development (INCDS) “Marin Dracea”, together with experts from the Republic of Moldova from the Institute of Forestry Research and Management (ICAS) and the agency “Moldsilva”, as well as practitioners, and will provide accurate data on the forest area, its health and total volume of wood.
This information will help authorities to more effectively combat illegal logging, plan reforestation and manage forests in a responsible and sustainable manner.
The forest area in Moldova as of 2025 was just over 11% of the country’s territory, which is classified as one of the lowest in the region.
The National Afforestation Program in Moldova (2023-2032) aims to restore and establish 145-150 thousand hectares of forests to increase the forest area from 11% to close to the EU average.
