We are talking about a large delivery – 1,000 4×4 armored personnel carriers, which are worth about a billion US dollars. The first batch of 194 armored vehicles has already been imported from Turkey, Romanian TV channel Digi24 reported.
The Romanian army’s new armored personnel carrier is called Cobra 2. The first batch of combat vehicles has already been delivered to Bucharest. From here they will be distributed to military units across the country. The rest, since the Romanian Army has ordered a total of 1,000 of these vehicles, will be manufactured entirely in Romania, in the city of Mediash. The Ministry of National Defense will pay about a billion dollars for this contract.
These armored vehicles are used in reconnaissance and strike missions, as well as for medical evacuation purposes, as they can be configured to carry three wounded soldiers off the battlefield.
The Cobra 2 armored vehicles are manufactured by the Turkish company Otokar. They are scheduled to be delivered to the Romanian army by the end of 2027.
