The River Information Services Center will be established within the Giurgiulesti Port Directorate. It will monitor traffic on inland waterways, improve safety of navigation on the Dniester and Prut rivers.
It is planned to introduce modern technologies – automatic identification and transfer of information about vessels, as well as electronic charts of inland navigation, which will provide accurate and up-to-date data on river traffic. Thus, the Maritime Agency will receive a more modern system for monitoring river traffic and rapid response in emergency situations.
This measure contributes to the creation of prerequisites for the digitalization of river navigation in Moldova and the implementation of European standards in the field of water transport.
The budget has not been announced yet. In the future, a feasibility study is to be prepared to assess the costs of equipping and launching the new institution.
